Systems Administrator

Our Client, developer and publisher of the MMORPG adventure game RuneScape, is looking for a systems administrator who will be able to maintain and support the systems we have in place to host our game.

The Systems Administration Team is responsible for creating, supporting and maintaining the Servers based across the world, by liaising with the hosting companies, and also facilitating the systems we currently have in place at our multiple working locations.

The opportunity will be ideal for anyone who has strong knowledge of Server technology, primarily UNIX / LINUX, be able to prioritise jobs accordingly and work to very tight deadlines.

You will be working in a fast paced development environment so the ability to be flexible and adaptable is a must.

Key duties include:
Maintaining remote and locally hosted Linux servers;
Work closely with hosting companies to ensure smooth running of the remotely hosted operations;
Working within the sysadmin team to design and implement solutions to a wide variety of system dministration problems;

Essential requirements:
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver to deadlines effectively;
Experience of kernel level development, e.g. patching, configuring, compiling;
Strong programming/scripting skills with Java, Python or bash;
Excellent knowledge of Linux administration and related technologies;
Good experience of networking, including routing and firewalls;
Keen understanding of security principles;
Able to work on own initiative;
Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and written.

Also useful:
Experience with the Debian Linux distribution;
Experience with Cisco IOS Software;
Experience with Windows OS;
