A vacancy now exists for a seasoned Account/Project Manager to assume responsibility, principally, for the day to day management and growth of all our clients business in the UK Fire & Rescue sector. There may also be a requirement to become involved in the Police sector depending on market conditions.
The role
The individual filling this challenging appointment must be a seasoned account/project manager comfortable with all stages of the software development lifecycle for projects up to £500,000 in value. He/she should ideally be familiar with the Emergency Services market and understand how the procurement cycle works. It is essentially UK based role operating from our client’s offices in Farnham, Surrey.
Specifically, the individual will be required to deliver the following:
1Take full account management responsibility for all extant software projects in the UK Fire & Rescue Sector, which principally include major operational systems for the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA).
2.Manage the development and delivery of all new software programmes for the fire and rescue sector, including the construction of proposals for all new work.
3.Build effective working relationships internally and externally and adopt the role of single point of contact for all Fire & Rescue project related work.
4.Scheduling, and chairing project meetings as required, tracking progress against plan and managing the resolution of issues ensuring minutes are produced and all actions are managed.
5.Provide regular and accurate communication on the status of all active Fire & Rescue projects to our client’s senior management. In particular, provide regular progress and costs reports against project milestones and budgets.
6.Identification, recording, policing and management of all change requests ensuring that these are effectively managed to prevent scope creep, minimise project impact and ensure our client’s commercial position is protected.
7.Ownership of the quality and content of all outgoing deliverables for managed projects and ensuring compliance with our client’s standards.
8.Tasking team members for project activities ensuring effective communication of the required work, time available, quality standards and effectively monitoring progress.
9.Staff selection, including interviewing, coaching/mentoring and participation in staff appraisals or disciplinary actions as required. Approval of contractor’s time sheets as required.
10.Management of external outsource suppliers to ensure that their staff are delivering work as required, within budget and to the appropriate quality standards and that our client’s commercial position is protected working with colleagues in the Contracts department.
Skills
1.A technical background is essential for this role, since the job holder will need a basic understanding of modern software development frameworks such as Microsoft’s .NET, as well as mainstream IT technologies such as Windows operating systems, Web technologies and databases.
2.Previous experience of management of complex software development projects using an industry standard project management methodology such as RUP, PRINCE2, DSDM is essential, as is having managed development projects involving mixed technical teams, one of which must have included 6 or more people.
3.A ‘can-do’ individual with a strong personal drive and ability to focus on the key issues whilst not losing sight of others is required. The role is customer facing, so strong communication skills are required including the ability to build and defend positions. Able to build effective working relationships at different levels both internally and externally. Identification of when processes are not working and the ability to introduce appropriate change to resolve this.
4.The ability to lead, motive and inspire others to deliver the project vision. Will need to be security cleared, so any current or previous security clearance beneficial.
